Swimming was first represented at the Commonwealth Games in Kingston Jamaica in 1966 and has been included in every Games since.
In Edinburgh in 1970 Alex Jackson won a bronze medal in the 200 metre freestyle.
Swimming is a major sport on the Island with over 600 swimmers involved in 5 clubs representing the Isle of Man Swimming Association, Douglas IOMASC, Ramseian SC, Southern IOMASC, Western ASC, and Manx Masters.
The Isle of Man Swimming Association is affiliated to the Amateur Swimming Association North West Region and Lancashire County Swimming and Water Polo Association.
Swimmers regularly compete in local events including the Isle of Man Swimming Championships and they also compete in events in the United Kingdom including North West Region Championships and the UK Nationals with medal successes in age group events and UK youth record holders.
The Natwest Island Games commenced in 1985 in the Isle of Man and swimming has been represented in every Games since with great success winning many medals.
The Isle of Man Swimming Association contracts the services of a Professional Coach to hopefully take swimming to a higher level.
