COMMONWEALTH YOUTH TEAM EXCEL IN CANADA LIFE INTERNATIONAL 10'S RACE DAYS BEFORE LEAVING FOR BAHAMAS.

The Isle of Man Cycling Association are pleased to be able to confirm its three riders heading to the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games in Bahamas.  Following a difficult and rigorous selection process Tara Ferguson, Jimmy Bostock and Will Draper head to Bahamas to compete in an individual 4m Time Trial followed by what will surely be a fast and furious 40mile road race.  The riders will face the cream of Commonwealth talent and after a successful period of racing at the Island Games and in Europe the Manx riders look well placed to challenge for medals.  Tara had a super games in Gotland with an Individual Gold in the Road Race a full collection of team Medals and should head to Bahamas full of confidence.  Will has recently returned from a number of International events including the Junior Tour of the Basque Country and has been the outright fastest rider in all of the local time trials this year, with an exceptional performance in the recent Mountain Time Trial event.  Jimmy returned from Gotland with Silver and Bronze team medals to add to his highly consistent results in the 2017 British Junior Series.

The team will be managed by Tim Kennaugh - Performance Manager for the British team JLT Condor. Tim who runs the bespoke cycling training company - Tim Kennaugh Coaching with clients such as multiple Olympic gold medalist Ed Clancy OBE as well as his Brother Pete Kennaugh of Team Sky along with a number of up and coming manx riders. 

The 2017 Games will feature up to 1300 athletes and after a break of six years cycling has returned to the competition schedule.  The medallists at the 2011 IoM Youth Games included current UK elite riders Hannah Barnes, Elinor Barker, Caleb Ewan and Owen Doull highlighting the significance of  these games.  Isle of Man Cycling would like to thank IoM CGA and its partners in allowing these three riders the fantastic opportunity and indeed experience of a multi-sport competition.

Will Draper took the top spot on the podium in Wednesdays race in an excellent time of 21:28mins, closely followed by fellow team mate Jimmy Bostock in a time of 22.05mins to take 3rd place. Female team member Tara Ferguson produced another brilliant time of 24:36mins. This puts them in perfect position for the races they are set to compete in at the Bahamas.
