Day two of competition
Sadly Catherine Reid has had to withdraw from the final of the 400m. Catherine picked up a slight injury during her semi-final heat. She saw the England physio and he advised her to do a very short and restricted warm up to see how she felt. She did that but the pain was too much and she had to withdraw. She is incredibly disappointed.
Best news of the day is from Boxing where Mathew Rennie (64kg) boxed against a Samoan in the quarterfinals and won meaning that he is guaranteed a medal!. Mathew won on points but did force the Samoan to take 3 standing counts on his way to a good win. He now boxes a Scottish boxer in the semi and hopefully will progress for a shot at the gold.
Charlotte Harris was ranked 5th after the first day in individual and has qualified 6th for the mixed pairs event semi-finals. She is paired up with a New Zealander in the pairs and so are called 'New Mann'!
Niamh Robinson qualified 5th for the 100m breaststroke ‘A’ final where she finished just outside the medals in =4th. Place. England, South Africa and Scotland took the medals
Alex Bregazzi was 1st reserve for the 100m freestyle ‘A’ final and was therefore fastest qualifier for the ‘B’ final. His time was a new Island Record previously held be Grant. He won the ‘B’ final and swam faster than in the heat meaning that he again set a new Island Record.
Brody Hewison was 1st reserve for the 100m freestyle ‘B’ final. We were hoping that someone would withdraw so that he could swim but unfortunately they didn't.
Let's see what tomorrow brings!
