Team Isle of Man suffered four losses on day one of competition. Josh Green and Ben Li both had early exits in the badminton singles. Both players easily won their first games, but comebacks from their opponents saw them both lose close and tense deciding games. Josh and Ben had several match points, in the end composure and strong smashes from their opponents ended the Manx badminton campaign.
Soon after, both players put defeat behind them to team up in the doubles. Drawing Scotland in the first round, the Manx faced a tough draw but were more than competitive in the first game but the Scots found fluency increasingly through the match winning 2-0.
Boxer Dan Roberts, contesting the 69kg class, bouted well though the judges rewarded Kenya's Dennis Onyango for his energetic flurries. Roberts, the more fluent accurate of the pair won the first round and drew the last, the Kenyan creating a wide winning margin in the second and third.
