The Isle of Man first competed at the 1958 Commonwealth Games in Cardiff. Since entering, the team has gone on to take part in fifteen games around the world, winning 12 medals (3 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze) and hosted the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2011.
In the years that followed Team Isle of Man’s debut appearance at the Games, the number of events grew. Sports such as badminton and aquatics were welcomed alongside the initial three sports of cycling, boxing and athletics, joined by lawn bowls, shooting and triathlon. Individual sports had been only allowed in the Games programme up until the 1998 Kuala Lumpur Games, at which team sports were introduced.
Twenty-eight years earlier, Manx history was made at the 1970 Edinburgh Games when the Isle of Man team included women for the very first time, namely badminton player Anne Corlett and swimmer Alexandra Jackson. Alexandra also became the first Manx woman to win a Commonwealth Games medal, claiming bronze in the 200m freestyle.
Most recently, the Island took to the international stage in 2022 at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, competing against 70 different Commonwealth nations.

The Isle of Man's swimming association focus on the current and future development of aquatic sport on the Isle of Man and maximise opportunities for swimmers of all ages and abilities. The Isle of Man swim team have had a strong presence at the Commonwealth Games most noticeably in recent years.
