King’s Baton Relay 2026 - Invitation to design and create the baton representing the Isle of Man

24.07.2025 by IOM CGA

Team Isle of Man is inviting submissions from local artists, designers and craftspeople to design and decorate the Isle of Man’s baton that will feature at both the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, and next year’s visit of the King’s Baton Relay to the Island.

For the first time ever every Commonwealth nation and territory is receiving their own Baton, with each having been asked to customise and decorate their own. All 74 Batons will be reunited at the Opening Ceremony of Glasgow 2026 with the King’s Baton Relay by then having visited every corner of the Commonwealth on its journey to the host city.

The creative theme desired for the design of the baton is Manx culture and heritage. How this is represented on the baton will be at the discretion of the designer.

The preferred design will be selected by a local panel of judges in March 2026 and the winning artist will then be invited to apply the design to the baton itself in time for the visit of the King’s Baton Relay to the Island.

Basil Bielich, President, Commonwealth Games Association of the Isle of Man said:

‘We are excited to be able to offer this opportunity to local creatives to design the Isle of Man’s baton.
The baton itself is simple and sustainable with no complex electronics or chambers. It stands at around 470mm high with each face around 70mm wide. With that in mind the design potential is broad, so we are hoping for some inspirational design ideas to be submitted.’
